NMAHA House Recreational Division

The Scorpions are a House hockey program that provides youth ice hockey for boys and girls.  The program is designed to teach players the fundamental skills of the game in a fun and positive environment.  Emphasis is placed on sportsmanship, skill development, and equal playing time.

The season runs from October through February.  Teams practice two hours a week (1-hour, twice/week) and play games throughout the season against other hockey associations throughout Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Taos. All practices and home games are at The Mac in Rio Rancho.

The House program consists of teams at these levels:
6U (6 & Under) - Ages 4-6, aka: Mini-Mite
8U (8 & Under) - Ages 7-8, aka: Mite
10U (10& Under) - Ages 9-10, aka: Squirt
12U (12 & Under) - Ages 11-12, aka: Peewee
14U* (14 & Under) - Ages 13-14, aka: Bantam (Checking begins at this level)
16U* (16 & Under) - see note below, Ages 13-15 for 2024-25 Season
18U* (18 & Under) - see note below, Ages 16-18 for 2024-25 Season

* For the 2024-25 season, 14U will be blended under the new naming for what was High School in the past, now 16U and 18U under USA Hockey this season.

16U will consist of ages 13-15 this season (birth years 2009, 2010, & 2011) under the Scorpions naming.

18U will consist of ages 16-18 this season (birth years 2006, 2007, & 2008) under the Cougars naming.

Hopefully these separate age brackets will only apply for this season.

NMAHA follows the USA Hockey Age Classifications (document below).
