The highest compliment that you can pay me is to say that I work hard every day, that I never dog it.

-- Wayne Gretzky

Now that the Holidays are coming to an end it's time to gear back up and get on the ice. Some of you didn't take a break and kept those feet on the ice over the Holidays at the Los Alamos Hockey Tournament. From what we heard everyone had a great performance.

New News: Player of the Month, Amazon Smile, Saver's Donation Drive

As  you may have heard we are incorporating a Player of the Month (POM) award at the High School level and at the House level. It goes without saying that the kids on the ice work hard but we would like to recognize those who may be pushing a little harder to get to where they want to be.  As an association NMAHA is here to follow through on the Vision, Mission, and Values but we can not do it without the players. Winners are below.

Coaches nominate one player to the evaluation board (4 members) who score each nomination based on the criteria below. This month each winner will receive 2 tickets to a New Mexico Ice Wolves game. Next POM will be for the combined months of December and January.

Player of the Month Criteria
Sportsmanship (respect coaches, officials, opponents, teammates)
Commitment (toward practices, games and continued improvement)
Honesty (playing by rules, character)
Positive attitude and enthusiasm for their sport both on and off the ice
Toughness (both mental and physical)
Work Ethic
Teamwork
Focus and Discipline
Perseverance (overcoming challenges)

Player of the Month

High School Level

Liam Higgins

This is Liam's first year playing hockey and he has shown a commitment to improve like no other.  His work ethic is an inspiration to the team and for that Coach Brooks now calls him Pitbull because he is driving harder and harder each time he is on the ice. He is a self starter who's perseverance and discipline to strive to be better is unmatched. Congratulations on a job well done.

House Level

Mario Diaz

Mario is not only respectful to his coaches, he puts his team first. He stepped up, more than once, to play goalie during a shortage, overcoming his fear of getting pucks shot at him; team-player. Not only does he show improvement in the defense position, he consistently improves in net. This is most likely due to his exceptional character and ongoing will to learn. Congratulations on a job well done.

Savers Donation Drive
February 8th, 2020

Squirts and PeeWees have planned a donation drive for February. Please start packing up donation items and we will come pick them up or you can come drop them off on the day of the donation drive. Savers is a huge revenue platform for non-profit organizations and we invite all of NMAHA to participate. In fact, put on your Jersey and go door to door asking for donations. This will be a one day event. The donation "Day Of" drop-off will be announced a few days prior to the event.

As of now Heather is looking for an approximate number of bags (typical large garbage bag) you will be donating. With this information she can predetermine if a rental truck will be needed. If you are able to volunteer you and your vehicle it would be appreciated.
